When She Was Only Three
(When She Was Only 3)

I pondered once with mild surmise
Where the heart of heaven lies
'Twas in the gaze of childish eyes
When she was only three

To her I was a mighty king
My gentled heart did mutely sing
And breathless love did wonder bring
When she was only three

Unnumbered wonders have I seen
Far distant places I have been
Yet I was serf and she was Queen
When she was only three
